Bill Belichick Roasts Jets Over Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold is lighting it up and Bill Belichick is impressed. The Vikings are currently 3-0 to start the 2024-25 NFL Season and the former USC product already has eight passing touchdowns. Of course, if you listened to Trey, then you saw this coming. Darnold was always a sleeper in fantasy and people who analyze football continue to fail to understand how much of a factor coaching and situation truly is. There are 53 men on the roster. This idea that the quarterback and the quarterback alone is responsible for the outcome of games is Looney Tunes.

Maybe the Jets are the problem. Maybe Adam Gase stinks.

Coach Belichick roasted the hell out of them on the latest episode of the Pat McAfee Show:

“Everybody has liked Darnold except the Jets,” Belichick said. “The people in Carolina I talk to, they really liked him. He was with the Rams, not for very long, they liked him, I think they wanted to re-sign him, he was looking for more of an opportunity than playing behind Stafford. I know that Kevin and some of the coaches in Minnesota, they really like him, too. It seemed like the only people who didn’t like Darnold were the Jets.”

When Will The Jets Give Sam Darnold A Competent Supporting Cast?

Just a few things have to be pointed out before we close out here:

A: I’m pretty sure Belichick confused Darnold for Baker Mayfield. Darnold never played for the Rams. He either meant 49ers or was talking about Mayfield.

B: Let’s not bring the Panthers into this. If they wanted Darnold back they could have kept him and they probably should have considering they almost won the AFC South with him.

C: We talked about this very decision Joe Douglas was in. It was really a lose-lose. He did get a decent haul for Darnold including second, fourth, and sixth round picks. He just also botched the pick and went with Zach Wilson. At the end of the day, it wasn’t going to matter what the Jets were going to do because they’re the Jets. Until they hire a grown up to change things, they will continue to be the Jets.
