Madden 23 is set to release in under two weeks! That means it’s time to fire up franchise mode and find a team to rebuild. Not all teams are created equally, and these are the best teams to rebuild in Madden 23.
Before I get started, I need to say this, just because these are the best teams to rebuild does not mean they are the best teams in the game. The point of a rebuild is to build a team up in the player’s eyes, usually coming from a bad team and emerging into a good team or having a fun storyline element involved. Then the overall joy of playing with a team and certain players definitely factor into what makes a team good for a rebuild. Now, let’s get started.
The Atlanta Falcons are kicking off this list. Right off the bat, they are an absolutely terrible team, with some interesting pieces. AJ Terrell comes in as an 89 overall, Kyle Pitts is an 87 overall with 91 speed at tight end! Deion Jones is an athletic middle linebacker, perfect user material. Plus, you have Desmond Ridder. Say what you want about his accuracy and ability in real life, but in Madden, he’s the highest-rated rookie quarterback, which is primarily due to his superior physical ability, illustrated by his 88 speed and 91 throw power rating. But if you don’t want to stick with Ridder, you don’t have to. He was a mid-round pick, so you can toss him aside if you so choose but his athletic ability makes him a very intriguing option.
This is a team you can make in your own image with some staple players to help. Notably you have Roquan Smith at linebacker, an offensive line that while it may be bad, it has some young and developable pieces, and Jaylon Johnson — good young corners are tough to come by and the Bears have one. On top of that, you’ve got Justin Fields, an elite athlete at 90 speed with 92 throw power. He’s a 74 overall, but he’s on a rookie contract with a fifth-year option. His Madden profile is what Josh Allen’s was about two or three years ago. Despite being an elite athlete with a strong arm, he needs to be molded a little bit. You get to shape the former Ohio State star into whatever you want and have one of the best rushing threats under center.
The Lions were a great team last Madden and have gotten even better this year in Madden 23. Hometown hero Aidan Hutchinson comes in at a 77 overall and an absolute speedster in Jameson Williams at 78 overall, with 98 speed to boot! Detroit has a great offensive line, led by 89 overall Frank Ragnow, while Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell both have 80 overall ratings. You just need a quarterback and have two first-round picks to go get him or you might want to try to make something of Jared Goff, the choice is yours! There’s so much potential, and some key players to build this team around. There’s even the potential of a Jeff Okudah career revival — oh, and don’t forget T.J. Hockenson is an 89 overall — this team has talent!
The Texans have Derek Stingley Jr., a boat load of draft picks, and some pretty damn good players. Laremy Tunsil sits at an 88 overall, and Brandin Cooks at 87. Stingley, meanwhile, is a 77 overall with 93 speed. Jalen Pitre and John Metchie (get well soon) both have 73 overall ratings. Oh, and Davis Mills has a 71 overall. Either roll with the long neck gunslinger or go for someone else, the freedom is yours.
Evan Neal at a 77 overall, Kayvon Thibodeaux at 75, and a Daniel Jones redemption arc possibly? Sign me up. With an entirely new staff you can do everything how you see fit without breaking any immersion. Maybe you can make Jones the guy, or you can try to land the next great Giants quarterback. Saquon Barkley is still kicking with an 86 overall, so you’ve got weapons to work with.
The start of a new era. The team’s three best players are defenders: TJ Watt (96 overall), Cameron Heyward (93), and Minkah Fitzpatrick (89). Newly extended Diontae Johnson and second-year player Najee Harris both bring 85 overalls to the table. You’ve got an elite Madden quarterback in Mitch Trubisky coming in with a 69 overall, good speed stats, 88 throw power, 83 short accuracy and 81 throw on the run. I’ve made Trubisky into an elite quarterback in Madden, and now you have the chance as well. Or you can usher in the Kenny Pickett era in Pittsburgh and start the 68 overall, 86 throw power rookie.
Seattle has a boat load of picks and looking for a new franchise quarterback. You have cornerstone pieces in DK Metcalf, the highly rated Jamal Adams, Tyler Lockett and first-round tackle Charles Cross. The Seahawks have some nice pieces, and a lot of work needs to be done as Drew Lock may not be the guy, but with youth and a big arm you might be able to turn him into something.
