Cincinnati Police have refiled misdemeanor aggravated menacing charges against Bengals’ running back Joe Mixon. The department released a statement on Friday.
“Today, the Cincinnati Police Department has refiled a criminal case… against Mr. Joe Mixon.” the statement read. “This decision was reached following the discovery of new evidence during the investigative process. To preserve a fair and impartial judicial process for all parties involved, no investigatory details or evidence will be disclosed outside of official court proceedings.”
Because there is no further information that we know now, it is hard to come to a conclusion about these charges. Although the presence of new evidence is not a good thing for Mixon. The charges stem from an incident on Jan. 21, where Mixon allegedly pointed a firearm at a woman. These charges were initially made on Feb. 3.
Mixon has been summoned to appear in front of a court on April 19, according to Kelsey Conway on Twitter.
The Bengals are aware of these charges, but are “monitoring the situation and will not comment further at this time,” according to Conway.
This is not the first time Mixon has gotten in trouble with women and the law, especially physically. NFL fans remember in 2014 when Mixon was charged with misdemeanor assault for punching a female in the face as a freshman in college at Oklahoma. He would pay the price for that situation, being suspended for a full season by the team.
Mixon has spent all of his six years in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals. He was drafted in 2017 in the second round and is fifth in franchise history in rushing yards for the Bengals. He’s currently playing out a four-year contract.
As I said, it’s impossible to speculate about a situation like this. The only person that knows what really happened is Mixon and the parties involved.
