Could Ben Simmons Finally Be Traded Soon?

Is The Ben Simmons Saga In Philadelphia Almost Over?

Is a Ben Simmons trade finally going to happen? Maybe. ESPN’s head NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted earlier today that trade talks between the Philadelphia 76ers and other teams are finally starting to go somewhere. Sixers President Daryl Morey has stood firm that the team would not trade the 2016 #1 pick for a bargain. Only unless they got a quality player in return. Woj highlighted that by saying Philly is entertaining 2 or 3 team deals in order to net a top 25 player in return. After a horrendous showing in the 2021 playoffs, it appears that Simmons may finally get a fresh start elsewhere.

Dare to Dream?

There is one player in particular that Sixers fans have been clamoring for a while. Even more since both he and Simmons seemed disgruntled in their current situation. Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard has been the subject of trade rumors ever since the Summer. With the Blazers recently firing former President and GM Neil Olshey for workplace misconduct, the situation seems to be getting worse for the former All-NBA guard. Lillard was unhappy at the team’s apparent lack of direction in the offseason along with their hire of new Head Coach Chauncey Billups. Despite the league’s worse defense and floundering at the bottom of the Western Conference, the Blazers have held their ground. Woj also reported that Portland has made it clear that Lillard is not available in trade discussions with the Sixers. For now, fans can only keep dreaming of Dame Dolla in the city of brotherly love.

Who Could It Be?

With Lillard seemingly out of the picture, Morey and the Sixers must now switch gears. With Lillard’s sidekick CJ McCollum out indefinitely with a collapsed lung, Philly must look near and far for a big name in return. Perhaps a guy like Malcolm Brogdon or Caris Levert could intrigue them since the Pacers are transitioning to a rebuild. Bradley Beal was a name floated to possibly join but the Washington Wizards are AHEAD of Philly in the standings with a 15-11 record.

Would the Nets be receptive to swapping Kyrie Irving for Ben Simmons? It appears to fit a hold for both teams. Without any indoor vaccine mandates like New York City, Irving could play right away. As well, the Nets would get a premier defender who could just stay in the paint and move the ball to their two stars. At the moment, it seems unlikely, but anything is possible in the NBA.
