It’s the end of an era. Ben Roethlisberger has played his last game in the NFL. The Steelers suffered an early playoff exit after a Wildcard round loss (which was expected) to the Kansas City Chiefs. The Steelers made the playoffs but this always felt like the end for Big Ben. Now it officially is.
Roethlisberger, 39, will likely go to the Hall of Fame. He was two Super Bowl titles under his belt. Roethlisberger played 18 years in the NFL. All for the same franchise. He was also the last remaining quarterback from that 2004 NFL Draft class that also featured Eli Manning and Philip Rivers. Amazing that the Steelers found a way to pick Big Ben with the 11th pick in that draft.
Roethlisberger will go down as a legend. Whether it be the Super Bowls or the fact that he rocked a foot cast better than anyone. Big Ben will be missed in Pittsburgh. The Steelers also don’t have a clear succession plan in place. Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins don’t appear to be the answer. Maybe that’s someone like Kenny Pickett in the draft or a cue of Aaron Rodgers this offseason.
Our very own Garrett Burroughs wrote a heart warming story about what Big Ben meant to him. I encourage people to check that out. Big Ben is one of six quarterbacks in NFL history to have beaten at least 31 of the current 32 NFL teams. Big Ben is also 4th in NFL history for winning percentage (.710) for a quarterback that has at least 100 starts. Hell of a career.
