After one of the latest episodes of The Dave Portnoy Show, it appeared obvious that Barstool Sports was going to re-hire Francis Ellis. It took about two weeks for that to come to fruition. Francis Ellis is back and Barstool.
Few things:
I have not watched the last Portnoy show but this is the link if you need it. I’m a busy guy so if you want more information, feel free to click the link.
This also kinda feels desperate. They know they are starting to lose real talent and it’s backfiring. Jared Carrabis is thriving with Draft Kings and Barstool’s baseball department has dipped since. Coley Mick is gone too and the quality of the blog shows it.
This was a gamble on someone they knew they think will get some traffic. Even if it’s only short term. Never forget, Francis was fired for a reason. Sure, maybe people deserve second chances. Who am I to say what’s right and wrong even if that blog was kinda ridiculously stupid? Is Francis talented enough to deserve that chance?
Where exactly does Francis fit in at Barstool? That’s the real question. You would think they would be heavy after fantasy football and gambling people right now. That hasn’t been the case. Francis is a stand up kind of guy. Outside of writing and maybe having his own show, I can’t see what else he’s bringing to the table.
Time will tell how the second reenactment of Francis at Barstool turns out. If it’s anything like the first go around, maybe they wasted their time. For their sake, this better work because a lot of talented people keep leaving that place.
