The reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Baker Mayfield, is one of many quarterbacks vying for a spot at the top of the 2018 NFL Draft. The New Orleans Saints are one team that appears to be interested in the Oklahoma signal caller. New Orleans holds the 27th overall pick in the 2018 Draft as Mayfield may not be on the board at that time. However, if the Saints are the landing spot for Mayfield, it looks like he would be thrilled to have the opportunity to learn under Drew Brees.

“I would love that,” Mayfield said at the EA Sports Bowl at the Armory in Minneapolis on Thursday night via nola.com. “To be able to learn under him for however long he plays, I’d love that (and) to get a chance to be in New Orleans, a good franchise.

“I love Sean Payton. I love what they’re about, so that would be a great spot for me.”

If Mayfield landed with the Saints, that would signal the heir apparent to the Brees era in New Orleans. Brees is the only 6-foot tall quarterback that has really ever made it in the NFL which would be an interesting transition. Brees might be the best mentor when it comes to Mayfield’s chances of making it in the NFL. Mayfield’s hero growing up was Brett Favre but has a great admiration for Brees.

“Growing up, I was a big Brett Favre guy,” Mayfield said. “As I’ve grown and learned about the game more, (Brees has) been a big-time guy for me.”

Mayfield was a 70 percent thrower in college but a number of his pure traits concern me. He isn’t the athlete that Russell Wilson is and he really doesn’t have the best pure arm strength. The height obviously is a concern as well. If you’re a Mayfield fan make sure to read the latest piece on Vendetta Media.
