Are The Red Sox Contemplating Trading Jarren Duran?
Back in 2022, I would have sold Jarren Duran for a bag of chips. That’s coming off a situation where the Sox just felt like they were hoarding young talent who was never going to play a significant role on a winning MLB club. Then 2023 happened and Duran finally had his lightbulb moment. Karl covered that really well here.
Now as we’re in 2024, the Red Sox sound like they may want out of the Duran business. That’s after Duran slashed .295/.346/.482 with an .828 OPS and eight homers across 362 plate appearances in 2023. He was also 24-26 stealing bases.
Are the Sox looking to sell while his value is high? Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that Boston is shopping Duran along with Kenley Jansen.
“The Red Sox are still fielding offers on star closer Kenley Jansen and others. They have a deep stash of outfield prospects, which has teams asking about Jarren Duran.
“The Padres, seeking a lefty-hitting outfielder, are interested. And the Padres and Dodgers are among candidates for Jansen. But San Diego may be more interested in a starter like Hyun-Jin Ryu.”
Padres you say, huh? Does that mean the Fernando Tatis Jr. pipedream to Boston is still a reality!?!?
After trading Juan Soto, the Padres definitely need help in the outfield. AJ Preller is never shy about making deals either. Maybe Boston could target someone like Dylan Lesko from San Diego to bolster that pitching prospect pipeline in Boston. If someone of that caliber is available, it’s something Boston has to consider.
Keep in mind that the Red Sox have a plethora of outfielders in the system. That includes Wilyer Abreu, Ceddanne Rafaela, Tyler O’Neill, Masataka Yoshida, and Rob Refsnyder.
