Arash Markazi Founds The Sporting Tribune
Are you a Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and or Hawaii sports fan? Well, you may be in luck because a new publication has just been launched. Arash Markazi is founding The Sporting Tribune which will be primarily focused on covering teams in those three specific areas.
Let’s do some positives, negatives, and then call it a day shall we? Sounds like a plan.
The name here is kinda weak. It sounds like Sporting News except maybe a west coast version? I’m sure Sporting News won’t be happy given how similar the name is. Not sure that’s a great business model but whatever. It sounds like Markazi is treating this as any run of the mill sports site. There may or may not be beat writers for each team but still another cookie cutter approach.
If Markazi can carve a real niche in this area, maybe it works. Quality will always win and Markazi is someone with a pretty good track record. He did a great job with ESPN covering the Lakers for a long time. He’s also worked for the LA Times and Sports Illustrated as well.
Markazi may have also started this network because he ran out of options. About two years ago, Markazi resigned from the LA Times and has been off the map since.
My question is why? Is the only thing unique about this is the fact that it covers three areas? If so you’re going to have to pump serious resources into that puppy to even have a prayer of this working. Maybe they have that under control. It sounds like Markazi has already secured an investor in his Tweet so good for him.
