Perhaps I Treated You Too Harshly

There’s been a running gag within Vendetta Sports Media involving me and Memphis Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks. On two separate occasions, once in the bubble and another near the start of this year, I’ve called for this man to be traded. I feel like I was justified in those calls because of how Brooks played. But Brooks has grown as a player, specifically as a defender, over the past few months. And I am man enough to admit that I was wrong about Dillion Brooks.

Listen, I was not the only one who felt this way. Back in the bubble, Grizz Twitter was in an uproar over the play of Brooks. Bad shots early in the clock, no ball movement, stupid fouls, and a host of other mistakes that cost the Grizzlies games down the stretch.

Nobody was mincing words when it came to Brooks during the bubble. When this season started, it seemed Brooks had grown some. But injuries and rough patches brought Dillion back to his old ways. But something happened in April. A switch was flipped. I honestly can’t describe it, but I started to see significant strides on both sides of the ball for Brooks.

As Brooks’ game has grown, so has his attitude towards taking the “bad guy” role in games. You 100% need a guy like that on your squad. He is a pest on defense. Even if you don’t have the ball, Brooks will be all in your grill. He’s not afraid to take the tougher defensive matchups on a nightly basis. Man but heads, literally, with former temates. Nobody is safe.

I’m Sorry

Dillion Brooks, I am sorry. You are morphing into a star in front of not just my eyes but the eyes of the NBA world. Other teams are already talking about how much they hate you. You help drag opponents into the mud and give the Grizz a chance to win. Does that mean you will be perfect from here on out? No, because your Dillion Brooks and will still make those boneheaded plays. But you will now have me fully in your corner to back you. If you would have me, I would love even just a small shack on Dillon Brooks Island before the port is closed.
