I was too low on Jalen Hurts. At least I’m man enough to admit it. I fail to recall when others do this. I’m the best NFL Draft analyst out there. The misses keep me up at night and I put my hand up in the air and talk about what went wrong for each and every one of them. I officially apologize to Jalen Hurts for his pre-draft evaluation.
Once upon a time, I laughed at the idea of Hurts getting picked in the second round. I thought somewhere in the 4th round was more reasonable. It turns out I was far too low. When I miss, it’s usually because I don’t have enough information on who the person is. The fact of the matter is Hurts has taken massive strides year after year. The guy cares and wants to be great. That’s half the battle.
Also, something I didn’t take into account but should have were his power-lifting numbers. The guys who are in the gym and constantly training are the ones that make it. Hurts is essentially the quarterback version of Nick Chubb. The squat numbers and rushing ability matters more than ever now. When you combine that with the improved work in the passing game, you have a franchise quarterback.
Quincy Avery totally fixed all of his mechanical issues that used to be present. The Eagles offense might have a little Mickey Mouse feel to it, but Hurts isn’t just bailing on plays anymore looking to run. His hip isn’t flying out of socket trying to make a throw. The internal clock has been sped up. Avery cleaned up everything and the light bulb went off in Hurts’ head. I’m not sure it would have been possible if it weren’t for Lincoln Riley, but it happened.
Trey is putting his hand in the air and admitting he was wrong. The Eagles still bombed that draft taking Jalen Reagor. However, maybe Howie Roseman wasn’t so crazy when he said he found the next Russell Wilson. If I’m going to blast Roseman for making stupid mistakes like taking JJ Arcega-Whiteside, he deserves praise for taking Hurts too. I was wrong and I’m man enough to admit it. Don’t worry, the other draft people will never do what I just did.
