People are really eating the cheese on this one huh? I’m sorry but you will and cannot convince me drafting Rashaad Penny in fantasy football regardless of your league rules is a good idea. The Seahawks running back will be a prime candidate for the don’t eat the cheese list this year. I figure we just get him out of the way now as a preview to a future post.
Did you know there is a Seahawks writer out there that believes Penny will have a better career than Saquon Barkley? Seriously… THAT happened. Look, I’m not a Barkley believer, however, I find it now fascinating that Barkley who was once considered a generational talent (not by me but by others) is now being frowned upon in comparison to a guy from San Diego State everybody laughed at Seattle for taking on draft day?
Somebody actually spent $25 for Penny in my main fantasy league. I don’t think I would have paid $5 for him. We’re talking about a guy that had 823 total rushing yards in the first three years of his career. A year ago, this is a guy nobody would have batted an eye if he got cut. Now I’m supposed to pay a premium price in fantasy for him? No, thanks.
Make no mistake about it, Penny was really good last year. 6.3 yards per carry even in a limited sample size is no joke. I think we also know the truth here.
A: Penny is not reliable in any way shape or form. A hamstring injury has come up during camp. Even if we’re going to believe in Penny now, how can you not be concerned about the injury history?
B: I’m just in on Kenneth Walker. The Seahawks picked Walker in the second round of the draft for a reason. Walker wasn’t my favorite back in this draft but he has real speed and just appears to be the most talented back Seattle has. Would be shocked if he doesn’t take the starting job by the time anything really matters in fantasy.
Not to mention Seattle is probably going to suck this year… How many times is this offense going to be in a position with a lead where they can lean on the run game? You get my point.
If I get this wrong, so be it. I have to see it for another year before I remotely consider buying Rashaad Penny stock. If Penny gets lost in the shuffle again this year, nobody will be surprised. It’s not a risk I’m willing to take in any fantasy league.
