Anthony Edwards Makes The NBA More Fun
There’s a lot to love about Anthony Edwards. The first pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, he’s been amazing since day one, just narrowly losing Rookie of the Year to LaMelo Ball. His 22.3 points per game this season is second on the Timberwolves to Karl-Anthony Towns, and he’s already playing at a near All-Star level. This article isn’t about any of that, though. Edwards is always himself, and as a moment yesterday proved, he’s always prone to a funny moment, and he simply makes the NBA more fun.
After yesterday’s game against the Pistons, Edwards sat down to talk to the media, only he had one request. Before answering any questions, he had to get his McDonald’s order in, giving the members of the media a laugh. It’s easy to forget that NBA players are people just as much as anybody else, and if we’re being honest with ourselves, a lot of us have put food at the top of the list of importance before. Edwards is himself all the time, giving the media what they want all the time, so here’s a list of a few other notable things he’s said before.
- Back on January 25, the Timberwolves were playing the Trailblazers, and Edwards caught fire, scoring a game-high 40 points in the Minnesota victory. After the game, when he was asked about how it felt to play that well, the first words that came out of his mouth were “I feel like Black Jesus”.
- The summer after his rookie year, Edwards was interviewed during the NBA Summer League and asked about what he had been up to. To that, he talked about how he could “bowl a 200” and swim “like Michael Phelps”
- In an interview on December 24, 2020 with Wolves+, a Timberwolves-focused podcast, Edwards talked about being a talented baseball player, saying he was the “fourth, fifth hitter”, or “straight cleanup on aisle three”. He also mentioned just after that he could excel in literally any sport.
- The other Edwards-isms are endless, such as the time he debated creamy vs. chunky peanut butter during a press conference or the time he talked about how Anfernee Simons should change his nickname from “Ant” since that also belongs to Edwards himself.
All in all, Edwards simply makes the NBA more fun. His production on the court should keep him in the NBA for a long time, and it’s time that fans start appreciating players as people too.
