By now, you have probably heard that the Los Angeles Lakers completed a blockbuster deal to acquire Luka Doncic over the weekend while trading Anthony Davis to Dallas in a three-team, six-player trade.
Everyone was blindsided by it. Danny Ainge was. LeBron James reportedly was. Tons of different players and pundits were. Not even Doncic or Davis expected to be moved.
Ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, in his first media availability since getting moved, Davis opened up about his reaction upon hearing the news.
“I was shocked,” he replied. “I didn’t know. I was actually at home, about to watch a movie with my wife and got the phone call. I had no idea. … Now, I’m kind of over it and just getting ready to play with Dallas.”
You could argue that this was the most shocking deal in NBA History. When all of our initial reactions are somewhere along the line of, ” Did Shams get hacked?” then something seismic must’ve happened.
Davis is expected to patrol a deep backline alongside Daniel Gafford, Dereck Lively and P.J. Washington. He made it known that he wanted to play alongside another 5 in Los Angeles–now, he gets his wish, just in Dallas instead.
Davis, who turns 32-years-old in March, is averaging 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds 3.4 assists and 2.1 blocks per game on 52.8 percent shooting and 60.1 percent true shooting through 42 games. He did not suit up for Tuesday’s game with an abdominal strain, which has held him out since Jan. 28.
