The Angels Should Trade Shohei Ohtani

The Angels blew it. For years, Los Angeles could have traded Mike Trout at any time and changed the entire future of the franchise. Instead, Anaheim became stubborn and held on to Trout despite a flawed foundation. Now Trout is on the 60 Day IL and is about to turn 30. The Angels still haven’t won a single playoff game with Trout on the roster. The Angels should recognize the mistake they made with Trout and do the opposite with Shohei Ohtani.

The Angels get a chance to have a do over. Once again the Angels find themselves out of the postseason race but have a different superstar on the roster carrying the franchise. Shohei Ohtani is a superstar. The only problem is the Angels still aren’t ready to win. The would have been if they had traded Trout for the farm but oh well.

The Angels are in the same spot they were five years ago. Which is why I’ll advocate for the same thing. The Angels should trade Shohei Ohtani and not think twice about it. No, I’m not trying to troll. It’s the right thing to do.

Angel fans can say whatever they want. The fact of the matter is, I’m trying to help them. Ohtani, 27, will become a free agent in 2024 and will likely get the biggest contract ever seen based on his two-way ability. Mike Trout already has a mega contract on the books. Paying Ohtani is feasible but the last time to Angels bogged down their books, they stunk (Pujols, Upton, Hamilton, Wilson, etc).

Outside of Ohtani, the Angels have no pitching. It’s why they took a pitcher with every single pick in the 2021 MLB Draft. This team is not going to be a real contender or even make the postseason until that changes. Blow it up. Start over. Trade Ohtani for the bag.

We have never really seen a player like Ohtani. His value is something we may never see again. Imagine the kind of trade package this guy would command? You could ask for pretty much whatever you wanted and feel within reason to do so.

Look, you can’t be paralyzed by this shit. Your team stinks. K… do something about it. Look at what the Red Sox did. They won the title and realized it was time to take a step back. Mookie Betts would traded and the franchise is better for it today back in first place. The farm system looks damn good too.

Are the Angels going to win the World Series within the next two years. The answer is resounding no. The Angels didn’t want to consider moving Trout for a better chance to win in the future and it cost them. Now they should trade Ohtani but we know they wont. It’s okay, the Angels will continue to remain irrelevant while they waste the prime years of the game’s biggest star.
