Panthers sign veteran QB Andy Dalton to two-year $10 million deal

After a brief hiatus, the Carolina Panthers have signed veteran QB Andy Dalton to a two-year $10 million deal, according to Adam Schefter.

After a brief time with the New Orleans Saints, Andy Dalton is headed to the Carolina on a two-year deal worth $10 million. On top of that deal, they will guarantee Dalton $8 million. Dalton’s max value on his contract is $17 million.

In 2022-23, for the Saints, Dalton had a mediocre year. In just 14 games last seasons, Dalton had a 2-1 TD to interception ratio (18-9) and almost 3,000 passing yards. He added his second highest passer rating of his career with a rating of 95.2 and a completion percentage of 67%.

Dalton will instantly become the Panthers number one QB for this moment in time. Recently, former Panther QB Sam Darnold signed with the San Francisco 49ers. Along with that, the Panthers have been very active this offseason. They recently traded with the Chicago Bears for the first overall pick. Some speculating that this move is a QB. Bryce Young, CJ Stroud, and now Anthony Richardson are all names that pop up when discussing the Panthers’ first overall pick. If they drafted a QB, Dalton will probably start over the rookie at first, but when the time comes, he will be sitting for one. Dalton is essentially a rental or a mentor QB for whoever the Panthers select at one.

Richardson has been the biggest question mark in this year’s draft. But after the combine, he has turned to a great chance at the first overall pick. I can see any of these QBs being mentored by Dalton. He has been around the NFL for quite some time now. In fact, the red rifle is going on his 13th season this year, making him one of the oldest QBs in the NFL. He will certainly be a serviceable and helpful quarterback for the Panthers in his tenure at Carolina.
