With speculation swirling around the Dallas Cowboys this off-season and around Amari Cooper’s future. Will he be released? Traded? We have the answer today. The Cowboys have traded the Wide Receiver to the Cleveland Browns. Here are the details.
Here is the tweet from Adam Schefter:
The former Raiders receiver is now going to his third team during his NFL tenure, this time landing with the Browns and potentially giving him his best chance to find success in the NFL. He has had a solid start to his NFL career: 517 catches, 7,076 yards, and 46 touchdowns. You would think that a player with those stats over a 7 year NFL career would catch more than two late-round picks, but here we are.
For Cleveland, this is a clear win for them. We will have to see what the cap situation is and who is paying for Cooper’s $20M cap hit this season, but if they can find a way to split that up Cleveland is a clear winner here. Very much a low-risk, high-reward kind of move for a team that is constantly trying to claw their way into the contenders club in the AFC. Is this the move that takes the Browns to the next level and makes them a real threat in the AFC, even the AFC North?
This move today by the Cleveland Browns shows that they are in full win-now mode and that they believe they have the roster capable to compete for the Super Bowl this upcoming season. It will be very interesting to see how Cooper pans out in Cleveland, and this will be a storyline to watch during the upcoming NFL season.
