Allen Robinson traded to Pittsburgh Steelers

After just one disappointing season in Los Angeles, Allen Robinson is on the move for second consecutive offseason. Robinson is expected to be traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers, pending his physical, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Tuesday.

According to Schefter, Steelers will receiver Robinson plus a 2023 seventh-round pick (No. 251), while Los Angeles received a seventh-rounder (No. 234) as well.

Shortly after winning Super Bowl 56, the Los Angeles Rams signed Allen Robinson in free agency for three years, $46.5 million dollars with just over $30 million guaranteed. Robinson started the first ten games of the Rams season before missing the remainder of the year with a foot injury. In those ten games, he tallied a very mediocre 33 receptions, 339 yards and three touchdowns.

Robinson is due to make half of that guaranteed money in 2023. With the Rams now feeling the ramifications of their spending spree that won them a Super Bowl, Robinson is just the next big name to be traded or cut by Los Angeles this offseason.

Of the $15 million guaranteed to Allen Robinson in 2023, the Rams have already paid $5 million. The rest will be paid by the Steelers this season.

Entering his tenth NFL season, Allen Robinson is likely past his prime. His veteran presence and knowledge likely contributed more to the Steelers desire to trade for him. The Pittsburgh Steelers have an extremely young team on offense. Kenny Pickett, Najee Harris, and George Pickens are all still very young and adjusting to playing at the NFL level.

A veteran player like Robinson will be very valuable in helping a young team continue to mature — especially a second-year quarterback like Kenny Pickett, who seemed to begin to feel comfortable towards the end of his rookie season. Having Robinson as a reliable safety net in tough situations should only help Pickett’s growth.

This is a breaking news story. Stay tuned for updates below.
