‘An all-time Yankee’ Team President says of Aaron Judge

It isn’t every day that we see as historic a season as Aaron Judge is having right now. As we watch Judge chase history, the New York Yankees are watching his price tag rise. Nevertheless, the team is still fully committing to signing Judge long-term this offseason.

Team president Randy Levine recently said Judge is “an all-time Yankee,” on “The Show” podcast. Levine also mentioned how strong the Yankees will be in contract negotiations this winter to keep the superstar in the Bronx.

Judge, 30, is having an MVP 2022 season that only Shohei Ohtani can compete with. As of today, Judge is batting .302/.408/.684 with 55 homers and 118 RBIs. While he won’t reach Barry Bond’s single-season record, Judge is still on pace for a 65-home run season. He’s doing all the right things to get a hefty contract this offseason.

“We think Aaron Judge is an all-time Yankee,” Levine said. “We think he’s a great player, beyond a great player. We think he’s a great person. That’s why we offered him the highest position player contract in the history of the Yankees.”

The contract, which was declined by the outfielder earlier this year, was a seven-year, $213.5 million deal. With the season Judge is having, the Yankees will have to cough up a little bit more to keep him in pinstripes.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan noted that the outfielder is more likely to land a deal over $300 million. While that number will continue to rise, it won’t stop Levine and the Yankees from their negotiations.

Levine said the team knows the slugger’s worth and how much he means to the team. While it’s always hard to understand a player’s thought process, teams can always help by waving around a loaded bag of cash.

All we can do is show him how much we’d like him to remain a Yankee,” Levine said.

Despite the plethora of offers Judge will receive from other teams, Levine added that the pinstripes give extra value. Just like the great Joe DiMaggio said, “I want to thank the good Lord for making me a Yankee.”

Will Judge really leave the Yankees? Money talks, but only time will tell. For now, we can enjoy the historic pace he’s setting, and later watch teams throw a ridiculous amount of money at him.
