“ALL SMILES” BY ASAP ROCKY ALMOST DONE: WHAT TO EXPECT?
According to HypeBeast, Asap Mob pioneer and rap expert Asap Rocky just announced that he is 90 percent finished with his upcoming album “All Smiles“. With his previous, more experimental album “Testing” (which I previously reviewed), we heard the likes of Skepta, Frank Ocean, and Kid Cudi. Now, with only a couple of official leaks, we are left wondering who will appear on this album.
WHO SHOULD WE EXPECT TO BE ON THE ALBUM?
Unlike the collective sound of Asap Mob’s “Cozy Tapes”, I only expect a couple of people from Asap Mob to appear on the album. Many things have positively affected Rocky’s life in the past few years, and even now. This includes his friendship with rapper Tyler the Creator and his recent relationship with singer and entrepreneur Rihanna.
TYLER THE CREATOR
In songs like “Potato Salad” and “Telephone Calls“, we see the potential of what Rocky and Tyler could do. The two essentially have completely different styles of rap. With wild and unorthodox bars from Tyler and more technical, orthodox, and experimental bars from Rocky, the audience can hear how their two styles can come together for the greater good. As the saying goes, “opposites attract”. I think this is essential to the lyrical relationship and friendship between the two. Even in the places they represent. Rocky is from the east coast, while Tyler is from the west coast.
FROM ASAP MOB
Next, from Asap Mob, I would like to hear features mainly from Ferg (previously known as Asap Ferg) and Rocky’s cousin Asap Nast. Although there was a lot of tension around the release of Ferg’s “Floor Seats 2“, he mentions that he has been recording with Asap Rocky. He also mentions the tension in his song “Big Asap“, and says that once in Asap, always in Asap. Ferg brings a lot of hype in his delivery, while Nast has a more retro flow and sound, similar to Wu-Tang Clan. It would be interesting to hear the whole mob on a song, something similar to their Cozy tapes albums (Hopefully they’ll announce a vol. 3).
OTHER FEATURES I HOPE TO HEAR ON “ALL SMILES”
Some other features I wouldn’t mind hearing from may include Trippie Redd, Playboi Carti, Kanye West, Schoolboy Q, Joey Badass, etc. I know that Travis Scott and Rocky may have had their differences in the past, but I would like to hear a collaboration between the two. I would also like to hear another collaboration with Smooky MarGielaa. I want Rocky to continue to help nurture his sound, as he is only 18 years old.
POSSIBLE FEATURE OF THE YEAR???
Finally, his current girlfriend Rihanna. Rihanna has not released anything in YEARS. Her last project was “Anti“, but is said to be working on another project. We have heard little hints from her in PARTYNEXTDOOR’s song BELIEVE IT. With Rihanna’s sweet vocals and accent, along with Rocky’s versatility, heavy lyricism, and melodic flows, the couple has the potential to make a billboard charting record. This collaboration has the potential of being the feature/ song of the year if it comes to fruition. Now that the two are dating, could he potentially get her to come out of “retirement”?
“ALL SMILES”: CONCLUSION
Whatever Asap Rocky plans to do, he should know that he has a loyal fanbase that will be with him along the way. Since the anniversary of TESTING, which was yesterday, we can only ponder about what his next album will actually sound like. For as long as Rocky has been established, we completely believe in his vision as an artist.
