I love a good meme like everyone else. The only problem with good memes is when they get played out, people keep trying to make it funny. The Alex Caruso meme was a good one, but we’re halfway through the season, it just isn’t funny anymore. The joke has gotten worse when Bleacher Report, or the Lakers’ fan account, got a hold of it. That is also not to mention other big networks like ESPN or Sportscenter. Whenever Alex Caruso breathes, it seems these accounts are posting about it on their twitter accounts. I get it, these guys just want to stay hip and relevant with their audience, but Jesus Christ, they took with it and ran with it like it was a marathon. Give it a rest.
Alex Caruso Stats
I could possibly give the Caruso memes some rest if he was an actual contributing player. But his contribution is next to none. He only averages 5.7 PPG, 1.8 APG, and 2 RPG in 20 minutes. That is absolute garbage. He actually contributed more last year with 9.2 PPG, 3.1 APG, and 2.7 RPG in those same 20 minutes. The amount of attention we give this guy for shitty stats is unreal. It’s gotten to the point where he has more fan All-Star votes than actual All-Star candidates like Devin Booker.
Garrett Burroughs and I talked about this on our pilot episode of our basketball podcast, ChicksTape, where Garrett said, and I quote, “Can we all stop sucking Alex Caruso’s dick?” He’s right, we both enjoyed the meme when it came out. It was funny, a balding white guy making some decent highlights. But now if he just dunks, that is all I see from Bleacher Report or ESPN. He is getting more media attention than actual basketball players that contribute so much and have way better highlights. It’s the most absurd thing I’ve heard of. I’m begging all the major media outlets, please stop, it’s just annoying now.
