Alex Bregman: Astros Seriously Considering Trading Him?
Alex Bregman has been one of the notable faces of the franchise in Houston during this dynasty type of run. Could Alex Bregman join Carlos Correa on the list of superstar players to leave the Astros? It somehow seems like a possibility.
Bregman, 29, is in the final season of a contract extension that he signed in 2019. The former LSU product is set to earn $28.5 million in 2024. If Houston doesn’t believe that they can get Bregman signed, it seems possible that they will try to trade him.
Jim Duquette of MLB Network has reported that Houston is listening on Bregman. SNY’s Andy Martino is hearing the same thing. When there’s smoke, there’s fire? You would think that the Astros want to retain Bregman but maybe they simply can’t afford him anymore.
2023 wasn’t Bregman’s best season. The Houston hot corner man slashed 262/.363/.441 with 25 homers, 28 doubles, 103 runs scored, and 98 RBI. 2019 was probably his best season where he should have won the MVP Award (click the embed below) and notched an OPS of 1.015.
Teams are probably foaming at the mouth at the idea of trading for Bregman. He’s one of the best third basemen in the sport and is an ace defensively. Really, this probably comes down to what type of contract Bregman wants and if he prefers to test free agency instead. Still, something major to monitor during the 2023 MLB offseason window. Bregman would have plenty of suitors if he’s truly available.
