Alex Bregman is one of the best players in baseball. He might even be the best player on a loaded Astros team that won the World Series in 2017. Houston smartly locked up Bregman long term. Houston and Bregman will come to terms on a 6-year extension worth $100 million. The deal will buy out two years of his free agency.
Mark Berman of FOX 26 Houston had the news:
Bregman, 25, has risen to stardom after the Astros selected him in the 2015 MLB Draft. Bregman was taken with the 2nd pick in the draft and he has not disappointed. The Houston third baseman made his first trip to the All-Star game in 2018 and slashed a batting line of .286/.394/.532 batting line with 31 homers, 51 doubles, four triples
The thing that makes Bregman so special is his plate discipline. The guy NEVER strikes out. He punched out just 85 times in 705 plate appearances. That’s insanity. This was a smart deal for the Astros to lock him up now. You can certainly make the argument that this is the guy you want long term out of any player on this Houston Roster. Pay him now before you’re stuck handing out a mega contract. Houston got a steal here.
