Alek Manoah Calls Gerrit Cole The Biggest Cheater In MLB History

We know the story by now on the new generation of Yankee fans. Accuse others of cheating while they go home and continue to win nothing. Hey, at least that Aaron Judge chase for the 7th most home runs in baseball history was fun! To put the cherry on top for another successful playoff exit, Alek Manoah laid the hammer on Gerrit Cole.

Manoah called Cole the biggest cheater in MLB history on Serge Ibaka’s show during the latest episode of Sportsnet’s “How Hungry Are You?”

“He used a lot of sticky stuff to make his pitches better, and he kinda got called out on it,” Manoah said.

Ime Udoka, Lance Armstrong, and Gerrit Cole. All infamous cheaters! Some just cheated in different ways but we won’t get into all of that. Forget about Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Mark McGuire… Manoah says Cole is worse than any baseball player in the history of the sport. Strong words!

There is credence to what Manoah is saying, of course. Something we covered in a previous post. Something now current teammate, Josh Donaldson called him out for as well. Cole’s numbers have all dipped since leaving Houston and they’ve only gotten worse since abandoning the sticky stuff. Cole’s numbers in 2022 weren’t horrific but his 3.50 ERA is his worst mark since the 2017 season with Pittsburgh.

The short answer is yes… they should be very worried. Cole’s production no longer matches his mega contract status.

What Manoah should have talked about is Cole’s numbers against his Blue Jays. 12 starts while allowing 11 home runs. That doesn’t scream ace now, does it?
