Agent Representing Jeremy Swayman Fires Back At Bruins

The Bruins just keep finding new ways to screw this thing up. So much so that Lewis Gross, the agent for Jeremy Swayman, has had enough and dropped a few parting shots of his own.

Let me catch you up to speed on what you need to know:

This whole thing started with Don Sweeney acting like a jerkoff at the start of training camp.

It somehow got worse when Cam Neely literally told everybody in the media what the Bruins’ contract offer was.

Now Gross was forced to respond and he claims the Bruins are lying about their offer.

Swayman, 25, went 25-10-8 during the regular season last year posting a .916 SV%. He was even better in the playoffs posting a .933 SV%. The numbers speak for themselves. The Bruins front office has botched this from the start. They could have extended him at a cheaper number last year and gave up all of their leverage trading Linus Ullmark without a Swayman extension in place.

The former Maine product and Alaska native has every right to feel slighted by what’s gone on.

Two reports that I feel that should be included before we close things out.

Frank Seravalli has reported the Bruins actual offer. It’s short of $64 million, meaning Neely did in fact lie about the actual offer.

VIA Daily Faceoff:

“According to Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli, the Bruins proposed an eight-year contract to the young netminder, with an AAV of $7.8 million.”

Frank Seravalli: [Swayman and Gross] are very disappointed in what Neely said. I think if you look at it from both sides’ perspectives…this really seemed like a tactical error by the Bruins. This felt like a team that was cracking under the weight of probably not having their future No. 1 in net to start the season…My understanding is that the Bruins have offered eight years x $7.8 million, which is $62.4 [million]. So, maybe Cam Neely had a bit of fun with numbers…$1.6 million is where they were off.

“I think the Swayman camp has been asking for eight [years] x $8.5 million, which is $68 million, and the Bruins were somewhere close to $6.5 [million]. So, the Bruins have gone from $6.5 [million] to $7.8 [million], they feel like they’ve moved a lot…They probably think, “Hey, we’ve moved a ton, now it’s your turn,” and the fact that hasn’t happened apparently has them frustrated.”

Elliotte Friedman then later added that Swayman and his camp are considering requesting a trade. The thing to note here is that Swayman is technically a restricted free agent so he is allowed to speak with other teams.

“The moment Neely said, “I have 64 million reasons why I’d be playing right now,” speculation ran rampant that Swayman would formally ask for a trade. The statement reveals one obvious truth — he is considering it.”
