AEW Rampage Preview (9/9/22): World Title Set To Be Defended

AEW Rampage is the first Rampage since the All Out pay-per-view. We are set to get the fallout from the pay-per-view and Dynamite. After everything that happened following the All Out media scrum, AEW is looking to put everything behind them and move forward. They are off to a good start by putting on a great Dynamite show this week. AEW is looking to keep the momentum by having another great show with Rampage. So here’s everything to expect heading into the show.

Serena Deeb vs Maddison Rayne

Serena Deeb is looking to prove that the professor is better than the coach, Maddison Rayne. Since losing her title match at ROH Death Before Dishonor, Deeb has been competing on AEW Dark. In fact, she is undefeated in singles competition since then. Furthermore, Deeb has only suffered one loss in AEW matches this year. She is looking to build momentum and hopefully cracks the top five in the rankings. Maddison Rayne has only wrestled a handful of times since joining the company. Neither of these women is in the top five for the rankings, so a win for either can put them there. Once you’re in the top five, you have a better shot at receiving an opportunity at a title. A win here can change the momentum for either of these women.

We Hear From Samoa Joe

Samoa Joe, ROH Television champion, is set to speak for the first time since he returned at All Out. Joe came to the aid of FTR and Wardlow following their win at All Out. He is the current ROH Television champion, so it will be interesting to hear what he has to say. I think we might receive a new challenge for the title from this segment.

Sammy Guevara vs Darby Allin

Sammy Guevara and Darby Allin are set to face off for the fourth time in AEW. Since the AEW World championship has been vacated, Tony Khan announced he will hold a tournament to crown a new champion. Bryan Danielson defeated Hangman Page to advance to face Chris Jericho next week. The winner of this match will move on to face Jon Moxley. Guevara and Allin are viewed as two of the four pillars of AEW. They are incredibly familiar with each other, which makes this match extremely enticing. Neither of these men has regard for their body and safety. So this one is going to be every bit physical. Allin and Guevara are some of the best young wrestlers in the world and both are future world champions. So this match is a must-see.

*ROH World Championship Match*

Dax Harwood vs Claudio Castagnoli (c)

Claudio Castagnoli has been defending the ROH World championship quite frequently. He’s faced numerous worthy opponents and beat them all. This week, he’s facing AAA, ROH, and IWGP World heavyweight tag team champion, Dax Harwood. While Harwood only has one win as a singles competitor, he is an outstanding singles wrestler. He surprises fans every time he gets to showcase his skills in the ring. He’s one of the hardest hitters in AEW and will serve as a very tough opponent for Claudio.

It’s not every day that a tag team wrestler receives a shot at a world title, so Harwood needs to leave it all in the ring if he wants to win the title. Claudio has yet to receive a loss since joining AEW. He hasn’t wrestled much, but when he does, he puts on one hell of a show. This match is going to be better than most may expect. It’s definitely the one I’m looking forward to the most on the show.
