AEW Dynamite Results and Review (8/24/22): Shocking Squash Match

AEW Dynamite was definitely a show to remember. There were multiple matches added to the All Out card and we saw likely the most shocking defeat in Dynamite history. The show was filled with action from the beginning to end. Here’s my review of every match that happened on AEW Dynamite.

**CONTAINS SPOILERS**

Chris Jericho & Daniel Garcia Face-to-Face

I thought this segment was done really well. Daniel Garcia really showed what he’s capable of on the mic and in a big-time segment with stars like Chris Jericho and Bryan Danielson present. You want to make sure you stand out, especially when you’re sharing the ring with names as big as Jericho and Danielson and Garcia did just that. It was a passionate promo that really helped progress this storyline. Furthermore, we are now getting Chris Jericho versus Bryan Danielson at AEW All Out. Overall, this was a really enjoyable segment that Daniel Garcia shined in. I’ve said it many times before, but Daniel Garcia is the best young talent in professional wrestling.

Dax Harwood vs Jay Lethal

This match was as good as one might expect. Dax Harwood is an extremely talented wrestler with a unique style that you don’t see much. Jay Lethal is a professional wrestling veteran who has won numerous championships in countless promotions, so it was no shock that the match was a blast. I wish it would have been Cash Wheeler instead of Dax because Wheeler is extremely talented as well. Harwood seems to get all of the singles matches, but if you ask me, Wheeler is the most underrated wrestler on the planet.

Did we need this match on Dynamite? No, but I am happy we got to witness it. Also, we received interesting news regarding the trios match at All Out. After the match, Sonjay Dutt announced that he and Satnam Singh will not be competing in the trios match. Rather, he found replacements in the veteran tag team of the Motor City Machine Guns.

Result: Jay Lethal def. Dax Harwood

Thunder Rosa Backstage Interview

Tony Schiavone was backstage with Thunder Rosa who announced that she suffered an injury and is going to be out of action. This was heartbreaking news coming from Rosa, but she isn’t going to drop the title. AEW announced they will be holding a fatal four-way match at All Out to determine an interim AEW women’s world champion. Britt Baker, Toni Storm, Jamie Hayter, and Hikaru Shida are the four women that will compete in the match. Vendetta Sports Media wishes Thunder Rosa a speedy recovery.

Billy Gunn vs Colten Gunn

This match was a waste of time. It did not need to happen, especially not on Dynamite. They should have had a women’s match instead since that’s an area where AEW is lacking booking-wise. The match was about as good as a match that Billy Gunn can put on currently. It was interesting and unexpected to see Colten come out with a win, but I think it was the right decision. The only good thing we got from this match was another match added to the All Out card. After the match, Colten and Austin attacked Max Caster and Billy Gunn. Swerve in our Glory came out to even the odds. Later in the night, Swerve in our Glory offered the Acclaimed a shot at the tag titles, and the match was made official.

Result: Colten Gunn def. Billy Gunn

Britt Baker vs KiLynn King

This match was pretty solid. Both women had a good performance, especially KiLynn King. King had another impressive showing on a big stage like AEW Dynamite. The future is bright for King, and I think we might see her more in AEW in the future. Although I enjoyed the match, I feel like we didn’t really need it. There are better opponents for Baker to face to build momentum for her heading into the pay-per-view. AEW seems to like to give people who don’t work for them big opportunities on their weekly shows. They have an extremely talented women’s division, so they should start booking them accordingly. Nevertheless, Baker cut a great promo after the match that helped build the hype for the fatal four-way at All Out.

Result: Britt Baker def. KiLynn King

Jon Moxley (c) vs CM Punk (c)

Fans everywhere were expecting this match to happen at All Out, so it was a surprise that we got it on Dynamite. What was even more of a surprise was the fact that Jon Moxley squashed CM Punk in about five minutes. I’m still shocked and trying to process what happened in the match. This is going to go down as the most shocking defeat in AEW Dynamite history. There are numerous questions that arise from this so it will be interesting to see where AEW goes from here. Moxley cut a really good promo after the match that I think really helped the whole situation. I think we’re in store for a CM Punk heel run once he returns to AEW. It was a shocking victory that left fans speechless.

Result: Jon Moxley def. CM Punk

Christian Cage Backstage Interview

Tony Schiavone was backstage interviewing Christian Cage. Cage accepted Jungle Boy’s challenge for All Out in what was another great promo. Turtleneck Cage is on another level. He’s been having a great run as a heel and really showed how amazing he is on the mic. Him taking on Jungle Boy is going to be an amazing match.

We Hear from Ricky Starks

Ricky Starks is one of the most underutilized wrestlers in AEW. He deserves a big push and showed why with this promo. It was passionate, personal, and gripping. Week in and week out Starks shows just how good he actually is, and we got a glimpse of it with this promo. Starks challenged Powerhouse Hobbs to a match at All Out and it was made official.

Death Triangle vs Will Ospreay & Aussie Open

This was the match I was most looking forward to and it did not disappoint. I said it was going to be the match of the night and it was. I had a difficult time figuring out who was going to win until I looked at the bracket. Once I realized the winner will face the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega it was obvious Will Ospreay and Aussie Open were going to win. Every match in this trios tournament has been incredible. It makes me excited to see the feuds after the first champion gets crowned. Ospreay showed why he is one of the best wrestlers in the world. His skills are unmatched, and he showed why during this match.

PAC is extremely underutilized in AEW. In my opinion, he’s a top-five wrestler on the planet. AEW put the All-Atlantic title on him months ago but hasn’t featured him on their main weekly shows. They need to change that, and they might with Kip Sabian coming into the mix. The standoff between Ospreay and Omega is going to be intense and the match itself is going to be incredible. Overall, this was another amazing trios match that really gets wrestling fans excited for the future.

Result: Will Osprey & Aussie Open def. Death Triangle
