AEW Dynamite Results and Review (10/26/22): The Ocho vs. Everyone

AEW Dynamite was a fantastic show, which I thoroughly enjoyed for the most part. I think there are some interesting storylines being put out. Dynamite hasn’t been as good as the show once was, but this episode was great. There were a lot of cool moments that helped the show feel special. Also, all of the matches were really good, which shouldn’t come as a surprise since AEW has an extremely talented roster. But they have been lacking is in storytelling of late and I think they did a good job at that in this episode of Dynamite. So, in case you missed the show, here are the results and my full review of it.

Claudio Castagnoli/Wheeler Yuta def. Chris Jericho/Daniel Garcia

Review

Claudio Castagnoli & Wheeler Yuta vs. Chris Jericho & Daniel Garcia

On paper, this match is extremely intriguing. Chris Jericho beat Claudio Castagnoli to become ROH World Campion and Daniel Garcia beat Wheeler Yuta to become ROH Pure Champion.

It was clear that there was some bad blood in this match. Plus, there has been some tension in the Blackpool Combat Club with everything that happened with Bryan Danielson and Daniel Garcia. The match itself was pretty damn good. There were a ton of really good spots that just show you why these men are some of the best wrestlers in the company.

I think AEW made the right call by having Castagnoli and Yuta win since Danielson has been losing a lot lately. Furthermore, what happened after the match was extremely interesting. Renee Paquette was interviewing Danielson and he was talking about how he was upset with Wheeler Yuta for what he did during their interview last week. Danielson and Yuta got into each other’s faces and Castagnoli had to break it up and demands that they sit down and talk it out like adults. Overall, this was a really fun match followed by a great segment that is turning into an intriguing storyline.

Jericho Appreciation Society Backstage Interview

Tony Schiavone was backstage interviewing the Jericho Appreciation Society after their loss to Yuta and Castagnoli. Jericho announced that he is holding an open challenge next week on AEW Dynamite to any former ROH champion. I love what they have been doing with Jericho and ROH and I’m excited to see who answers the call.

FTR vs. Swerve in our Glory

Despite there being a couple of botched spots, this match was really good. This match also just goes to show that the rumors of AEW abandoning the ranking system are true. This was to crown the No. 1 contender for the AEW Tag Team Championship. Now, this might not seem like a big deal, but FTR has been atop the rankings for months, so them having to wrestle to be the No. 1 contender proves the ranking system is dead. Regardless, this match had a pay-per-view level feel to it.

As much as I want FTR to win the AEW Tag Team Championships, now isn’t the time. The Acclaimed is one of the most over teams in all of professional wrestling. So, you can’t take the belts off of them now, plus how they had FTR lose was smart. They had the Gunn Club interfere and cost them the match which makes sense. Overall, this is a match that could have been on any pay-per-view, but luckily, we got it on AEW Dynamite.

MJF Interview with Renee Paquette

Renee Paquette interviewed MJF and if this showed anything, it’s how over he currently is. MJF is transitioning toward becoming a baby face, but I don’t buy it. He claimed he was going to beat Jon Moxley clean at Full Gear, but I simply don’t buy it. Everything he has been doing has been amazing and every week he shows why he is one of the best on the planet.

Bryan Danielson vs. Sammy Guevara

This match was as good as it could have been. This isn’t a shot at anyone, it was still a good match, I just don’t think it could have been any better. It’s funny that Sammy Guevara allegedly complained about how hard Andrade El Idolo hit, then Tony Khan books him against Danielson.

Danielson was clearly frustrated and took it out on Guevara. This match was brutal and extremely hard-hitting. It was a good old-fashioned fight. Danielson had to win and win he did. He essentially just beat Guevara until he was knocked out, which was awesome. This match showed how frustrated Danielson is with what’s going on with the Blackpool Combat Club. Overall, this was a good match that added to an interesting storyline on AEW Dynamite.

Rey Fenix Backstage Interview with Renee Paquette

Rey Fenix was back talking about how his brother, Penta, was going to win the AEW World Championship. Fenix said he wanted to become a double champ himself and wanted to win the All-Atlantic Championship but was interrupted by Christian Cage and Luchasaurus. Orange Cassidy came in and challenged them to a triple-threat match. I love Orange Cassidy more than the average person, but this promo was just strange to me. I’m not mad at the match, but his part in the promo just seemed off. Regardless, this match should be a lot of fun.

Riho vs. Jamie Hayter

This was one of my favorite matches of the night. Jamie Hayter is proving every week that she is one of the best wrestlers on the roster. Hayter beating a former AEW Women’s World Champion is a big deal. While Britt Baker and Rebel did interfere on the outside, Hayter did look strong. I’m a big fan of Hayter, like many people, and AEW needs to put a title on her soon. However, I don’t think she is going to beat Toni Storm or Jade Cargill. There were a ton of really good spots in this match, and I do think the right person won. Plus, it looks like we’re gettig Storm against Hayter again, which is awesome. If this match showed you anything, it’s just how damn talented the women’s division is. They need to feature more women’s matches on AEW Dynamite and Rampage.

AEW World Championship Match

Penta El Zero Miedo vs. Jon Moxley (c)

This match simply ruled — there is no other way to put it. It was fantastic in every way and Penta showed he can compete as a single wrestler.

Many people were upset with why this match was taking place. Jon Moxley held an open challenge and wanted to fight someone he had never faced before, and Penta answered the call. It’s as simple as that. I have been one for wondering why certain matches are happening and I did question this one, but after watching it I’m completely fine with it. what happened after the match was very intriguing.

Earlier in the night, MJF told Stokely Hathaway not to touch Moxley because wanted him fully healthy so there would be no excuse for when he beats him. Well, Hathaway didn’t listen and after the match, The Firm came out and jumped Moxley. The Blackpool Combat Club got locked in their room, so they couldn’t help him. MJF came out and despite his hesitation, he helped Moxley. He got The Firm off of him and fired Hathaway, so The Firm turned on MJF. This is another interesting piece of the storyline. I don’t buy this at all, and I still think MJF will be heel following his match at Full Gear. Nevertheless, this was a great way to close out AEW Dynamite.

Overview

This was a great episode of Dynamite. It was definitely one of the better ones since All Out. There was a sign pointing toward a potential return of The Elite. It feels like AEW may finally be heading in the right direction. Furthermore, there were some great advances in storylines during this episode. Which is important to draw viewers in every week. It will be interesting to watch how everything unfolds moving forward.
