Adam Sandler movies are always hilarious. He has some of the most quotable lines in movie history, and some of the most iconic characters in the modern era. These are Sandler’s best 5 movies (in my opinion) but he is cranking out new movies what seems like every other month with Netflix, so the list can be subjective.
Lets get into the list
Honorable Mention: Uncut Gems
This is only an honorable mention because it is hard to compare to the normally comedic movies he stars in. The gambling movie is incredible. The movie kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire time, the gambling scenario seems far fetched, but his role as the jeweler and his connection to Kevin Garnett in the film made it seem very real. The movie came out Christmas day 2019, and was a snub from the Emmy awards in 2020.
Number 5: The Longest Yard
The re-make of the 1974 Burt Reynolds football movie was awesome. The storyline was well done, and all though it was not an original idea, they added the modern touch to the film. The 2005 version had Sandler, as well as Burt Reynolds and Chris Rock. The cast was great, but the asshole warden and prison guards made it feel as if the audience was on the side of the bad guys.
Number 4: The Waterboy
Sandler starred in another football movie, this time not the professional quarterback turned prisoner, but as the team laughing stock and the guy who handed them water. Kathy Bates played the over baring mother who would not let her son play football, the typical over baring mother who did not let her “special son” live his life. Bobby Bouchie saved the day for the team, but along the way gave some classic lines.
Number 3: Big Daddy
Dylan and Cole Sprouse play the son of Sandler’s friend. He pretends to adopt the kid all as a ploy to pick up girls. When the authorities catch on, he uses his soon-to-be girlfriend lawyer to keep the kid.
The movie had some all time scenes, while the audience gets to see Sandler grow up and get responsibility
Number 2: Billy Madison
This easily could have been number 1. Some of the lines in this movie still make me laugh after watching it over a dozen times. When Billy Madison goes back to school and interacts with elementary schoolers him making fun of the students stutter made me howl.
I still use “t-t-today junior” at least twice a week when my friends stutter (I actually am the one who stutters) but it is still a classic line.
Number 1: Happy Gilmore
The golf movie is incredible, the hockey failure turned PGA star turned the classic golf scene on their head. He fist fought Bob Barker, and his on going battle with Shooter McGavin made this movie the number 1 Sandler movie.
Adam Sandler movies are great, these are just a few of the best ones.
