AC Milan Teammate Expects Big Help From Christian Pulisic

AC Milan signed USMNT forward Christian Pulisic from Chelsea last month and star winger Rafael Leão has big thoughts on the American.

“I feel good because [Pulisic’s arrival] pushes me as well to do more,” said Leão to ESPN. “It’s important to have serious, high-quality players as that will help us to get trophies.”

This is great praise toward Pulisic from a player in Leão that was a star for the Italian giants last season. Rafael Leão finished the 2022-23 season with 16 goals and 15 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

Those were team-leading numbers for a Milan side that finished fourth on the Serie A table.

Pulisic on the other hand had a rough go at Chelsea and was in need of a fresh start with a new team. The 24-year-old played in just 24 Premier League matches for the Blues last season finishing with a goal and an assist to his name.

Injuries had pushed the American star out of the first team for the past few seasons. Since joining Chelsea in 2019 Pulisic has missed 55 matches due to injury.

A move from Chelsea was needed for Pulisic since he felt that he deserved more of a chance to feature for the team. He will be getting that opportunity for Milan. Pulisic officially made the move from London to Milan for a fee of $25.6 million.

This is a great move for a player that is skilled on the ball. The Premier League is a very aggressive league when it comes to how defenders play and that was an issue for an injury-prone Pulisic. However, in Serie A there is more leeway for Pulisic to show off his skill on the ball without the concern of being taken out by a defender.

“I like players that are not afraid to get the ball and go one against one, one against two, one against three,” Leão said about Pulisic. “He’s fast. He can shoot with the left foot, with the right foot. I’m really enjoying it.”

Pulisic made his debut for AC Milan in a pre-season friendly against Real Madrid this past Sunday. In his debut, he played 71 minutes and picked up the assist on the opening goal.
