Friday night, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took to Instagram Live alongside Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy. In the livestream, Rodgers announced that he would be making a $500,000 donation to the Barstool Fund.
Here is what Rodgers had to say on the livestream:
You guys have a message of hope and love that nobody else is offering. The government isn’t offering help. These are our people, the backbone of the American class. This is not about any politics, this is about our people: we need those things. That’s what makes this country great. You’re giving us love and hope when all we get from the media is fear and things that make us scared.
Keep up the good work. Anything you need, I’m onboard.

Portnoy established the Barstool Fund on December 17th to provide financial aid to small businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thus far, the Barstool Fund has raised over $21 million from more than 162,000 supporters. 91 family-owned stores, restaurants, and other establishments have been fully funded through Portnoy’s efforts.
Rodgers’ contribution of $500K matches the original amount that Portnoy started the fund with. He urged his teammates and sponsors to make their own donations to the Barstool Fund. Other prominent NFL players have already supported the campaign, including Buccaneers QB Tom Brady a week ago. Pat McAfee also pledged money of his own.
The Green Bay quarterback is largely expected to win the 2020 NFL MVP award after a phenomenal season. Rodgers finished the regular season with 4,299 passing yards, 48 touchdowns, a 70.7% completion percentage, and just five interceptions. Should he win, this would be his third career MVP award after 2011 and 2014.
Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC this season with a 13-3 record. They will face the lowest-remaining NFC seed on a date and time to be determined. Possible opponents are the No. 4 Washington Football Team, No. 5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, No. 6 Los Angeles Rams, and No. 7 Chicago Bears.
