Jadeveon Clowney DOES NOT Want To Play For The Dolphins

There are a lot of holdouts going on the in the NFL. The one that isn’t being talked about enough is Jadeveon Clowney. The Texans edge rusher was hit with the franchise tag this offseason. Thus far, the two sides have not come to terms on a long term extension. Clowney was ready to report to camp but then found out that Houston was trying to trade him. That’s why Clowney is still sitting.

One of the rumored destinations for Clowney is the Miami Dolphins. There have even been trade discussions of some kind of Laremy Tunsil swap. That’s not going to happen for one reason. Clowney has no interest playing for Miami.

Yes, Clowney does have a choice here. Clowney cannot be traded without his consent. The reason being that he hasn’t signed his franchise tender yet. He can’t be traded if he won’t sign the tender. Therefore, Clowney has real leverage here. The Dolphins have been aggressive in their pursuit but that’s not going to happen.

Can’t blame Clowney here. The former number one overall pick in 2014 has no interest playing for the Dolphins because they suck. Miami is a strong favorite to land the number one pick next year. Who would want to be stuck in that situation? Miami will win 4 games this year? Maybe less? Miami isn’t a draw either when he’s already in Houston. Both are big market cities.

Clowney is a good player. The former South Carolina product has 18.5 sacks the past two years. That’s good production. It’s just not Khalil Mack production who was drafted after him in 2014. I don’t see how this one gets resolved. A trade does appear to be a real possibility.
