Giants Expecting Leap From Lorenzo Carter

Lorenzo Carter is a player that I was very high on in last year’s NFL Draft. The former Georgia pass rusher is an athletic freak and just has unreal tools. Carter responded with a decent rookie season racking up 4 sacks. Not a bad number for a first year player. However, heading into year 2, the Giants want more.

Outside linebackers coach Mike Dawson said the team is expecting a big leap from Carter heading into 2019:

“He’s got the tools where he’s strong enough, he’s got the athletic ability,” Dawson said, via NJ.com. “Really kind of getting to know this language. He was in kind of a 3-4 system in college, but some of the terms are different. It may be the same term, just named something different, and having to process that in your head. Now when you don’t have to think about that, it’s just natural where you just kind of react, I think that helps you play a little bit better.”

Carter is slated to start opposite of Markus Golden. The only other pass rusher to note on the roster is third round pick Oshane Ximines. I’ll just tell you right now that he sucks. Carter is the X-Factor to the Giants defense. If he can be a double digit sack guy and pick up pressures left and right, this defense can be functional. If that doesn’t happen, this defense will turn into swiss cheese.

The Giants better be confident in Carter. They passed on the chance to draft Josh Allen. If Carter blossoms into a star, imagine what they could have had if they did draft Allen. Carter will have to get home to the quarterback because this secondary needs major help. Good luck with Jabril Peppers and old Antoine Bethea at safety.
