The Atlanta Braves are doing a hell of a job locking up their young building blocks. Ronald Acuna has already been signed to a team friendly extension. Now stud second baseman, Ozzie Albies will join him. The Braves and Albies have agreed to a 7-year deal worth $35 million. The deal also includes two option years.
Joel Sherman of the New York Post was the first to report the news:
The Braves already had control over Albies until 2023. Now they will extend that marriage even further. This is a crazy cheap contract. $35 million is pennies. He could have made that in the final two years of Arbitration alone. This is an enormous win for the Braves. I don’t know how they did it. 3 years from now, Albies will probably fire his agent.
Albies, 22, has a career batting line of .268/.317/.453 to go along with 30 homers, 49 doubles, 10 triples
A lot of credit should be given to the old regime ran by John Hart. The man was a wizard and turned this franchise around
The NL East is a fun division. The Braves are loaded with young talent. The Phillies made a bunch of offseason splashes. The Nats still have talent everywhere. The Mets have the best pitching staff. This division is going to be fun to monitor.
