Matt Ryan: Winning A Super Bowl ‘Motivates Me To Get Out Of Bed’

Championship or bust. That’s the only thing on Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan’s mind. Like Ricky Bobby once said “If you ain’t first, you’re last”. Matt Ryan really took that to heart and is desperate to bring a championship to the city of Atlanta. Good for Matty Ice. He gets it.

In an interview with Vaughn McClure of ESPN, the thought of winning a Super Bowl gets him out of bed in the morning:

“It’s the No. 1 goal for me,” Ryan said of winning a Super Bowl. “It’s the ultimate and what motivates me to get out of bed every morning and to try and put in the work as hard as I can, to bring a championship to this city and to our organization. That’s what it’s all about.”

I hate to break it to Matt Ryan, but he probably blew his chance. 28-3 in the third quarter, buddy. Close the deal. Win the game. Convert one third down. That’s it. He will never have another Kyle Shanahan. Well, at least probably will never have one. Julio Jones will never be better. He blew his chance to win a title. Too bad he wasn’t in the Super Bowl this year. All the Rams needed to do was score 14 on New England and that bum Jared Goff couldn’t do it. Matt Ryan would have gotten the job done.

The fact of the matter is that as long as Dan Quinn is running the show, the Falcons are screwed. What does he bring to the table? His defense always falls between sucks and mediocrity. Ever since Kyle Shanahan left, the offense has slowly fallen off a cliff. Now Ryan is stuck with that idiot, Dirk Koetter. Ryan is optimistic and I wish him luck. Hey, I guess it can’t get worse than Steve Sarkisian?

“Dirk, he’s an excellent playcaller,” Ryan said. “He connects with the guys really well. I think he kind of adjusts to where he’s at. What they did in Tampa was different from what he did in Atlanta [the first time], which is different from how they played in Jacksonville. He looks at what you have, and he tries to take what you have and make what you have the best it can be.”

Look, the Falcons finished 7-9 a year ago. How do we find a pathway for them to improve to championship contention? Bringing back Grady Jarrett is step one. He’s an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason. Getting Devonta Freeman back healthy helps. Hopefully, Calvin Ridley takes a step forward. What else can Atlanta do?

I’m not sure they are a position to catch the Saints. Matt Ryan threw for 35 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, and close to 5,000 yards in 2018. However, if the Falcons want to make a return to the Super Bowl, Ryan needs to return to MVP form. That only happens if Dirk Koetter is an upgrade over Steve Sarkisian and I’m not betting on that to happen. Here’s what I do know. Matt Ryan is 33-years-old and time is ticking.
