2023 NFL Draft Safety Rankings

We’re finishing off the 2023 NFL Draft position rankings! It’s loaded at cornerback and semi deep at safety. If you’re looking for a defensive back, this draft provides just that. Not sure it has many elite options at safety but a lot of players that will make rosters and provide an impact. Let’s get this done with and go over the 2023 NFL Draft safety rankings!

10: Kaevon Merriweather (Iowa)

I like this guy a lot. Bit of a jack of all trades. Going to see him cover tight ends at the next level and do it kinda well. Just wait for it.

9: Jartavius Martin (Illinois)

Nickel corner / roaming free safety. Has elite speed at 4.46. 44 inch vertical too. Has some ball skills. Don’t sleep.

8: Brandon Joseph (Notre Dame)

The 4.62 is a bit underwhelming but don’t sell all your stock. Former Northwestern transfer. Smart guy with 10 career interceptions. Plays the deep part of the field well. Just has no closing speed. Bad short area.

7: DeMarcco Hellams (Alabama)

Led Alabama in tackles last year and had a weird role. Think he’s going to be a converted linebacker. Makes plays. That’s all I know.

6: Jammie Robinson (Florida State)

Haven’t totally figured this one out. Short arms and not overly fast. Started out at South Carolina too and never did much there. I just think the guy can kinda play. Tackles and has ball skills. Will find a role in a secondary.

5: Christopher Smith (Georgia)

Not a supped up Georgia guy. 4.62 40 time but six picks over the last two years. Makes plays on special teams too. Really attacks the football. Undersized free safety that has some talent.

4: Sydney Brown (Illinois)

Bowling ball of hell. Much better than his brother. Obvious work ethic and great build. Six picks last year. Comes downhill fast. Bit tight hipped but he’s a gamer.

3: Jordan Battle (Alabama)

Total strong safety but Bama creates good players. Big time recruit and got playing time as a true freshman. Has ball skills. 4.55 is good enough. Looks and feels like a starting strong safety in the league.

2: Ji’Ayir Brown (Penn State)

MVP of the Rose Bowl. Four picks last year. Wish he was faster (4.62). Good tackler and blitzer too.

1: Brian Branch (Alabama)

Upper middle class Minkah Fitzpatrick. You’re welcome.
