Clemson doesn’t make the horses at the wide receiver position like they used to. Joseph Ngata is part of that lower tier group that looks to make their mark at the NFL level. We won’t get DeAndre Hopkins, but is Joseph Ngata enough to make it? Let’s review the Joseph Ngata 2023 NFL Draft profile!
Again, Ngata looks like one of those dominant Clemson receivers of the past. Checks in at 6-foot-3, 217. Runs a 4.54 too which is respectable. The actual play itself though is underwhelming. I know Clemson had their fair share of struggles on offense but Ngata is far less intriguing than Justyn Ross was a year ago and he didn’t get picked. That was mostly because of injury but the point still stands. If you’re hoping for Tee Higgins, I wouldn’t get your hopes up.
The recruiting profile checks out. Ngata is a former four-star guy and the number nine receiver nationally during the 2019 cycle. It just never felt like he was a prominent part of the Tigers offense. 2022 was Ngata’s most productive season with 41 receptions for 526 yards and two scores. Ngata did return kicks as a freshman if that helps tickle your fancy.
We don’t have any extensive Senior Bowl or East-West notes either. It just feels like he’s there which isn’t exactly inspiring. I thought Ngata looked fine at the combine but was never wowed.
I have Joseph Ngata as an intriguing undraftable guy that may have potential down the road but needs to have that lightbulb moment. The skillset is there but there is no evidence thus far that this is a quality NFL receiver.
