Yes, Tennessee has two draftable wide receivers in the 2023 NFL Draft. Jalin Hyatt (who we already covered) and Cedric Tillman. Both are very different players, and Tillman carries a unique skillset. Let’s discuss it and review the Cedric Tillman 2023 NFL Draft profile!
Tillman is a contested catch specialist. Tennessee was very good this year and Tillman was a huge part of their success. He was frequently mentioned during the stock report notes for the same thing over and over again. There’s that big body coming up with a touchdown he probably shouldn’t have.
Tillman also comes from NFL bloodlines. His father played receiver and attended Alcorn State. Really big body at 6-foot-3, 213. Really wants the ball and wins those contested catches. Just a three star recruit but played for powerhouse Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. Had a bit of an injury plagued season in 2022 but had really solid production the year prior reeling in 12 scores.
The high ankle sprain really killed him in 2022. He was struggling to stay on the field but it was amazing he produced the way he did. Not the best route runner but really physical at the point of the attack. Really strong ball skills, very hard to tackle, and unphased with the ball in the air dealing with traffic.
I’ve really started to buy into Tillman mostly because he produced in the biggest moments. Against Georgia and Alabama in 2021, Tillman notched 17 catches for 352 yards and two TDs. Not an easy task to do against the two premier programs in the SEC.
I have a firm third round grade on Cedric Tillman. Someone that doesn’t have a ton of wow factor but is capable of becoming a reliable starter down the road. Building a wide receiver room is a lot like building a basketball team. What Tillman is good at, he’s really good at. He does a lot of the things that Michael Pittman did but might be better and won’t cost as much.
