2023 Masters Best Bets: Who is in Contention?

Golf is getting more exciting by the second. With LIV players now being allowed to compete in PGA major events, who will take home the covenant green jacket this Sunday at The Masters? There are handfuls of amazing players in this year’s field, but only one can take home the title and become a Masters champion. Here are five of the best bets for the 2023 Masters and who is in contention.

*All lines are taken from BetMGM as of Tuesday, April 4th at 11:00 a.m. ET*

5 Best Bets for 2023 Masters:

Max Homa (+2500)

Homa has been striping it all year. During the 2022-23 season, Homa has been red hot with eight top-10 finishes, includes three first-place finishes at the Fortinet Championship, Presidents Cup and the Farmers Insurance Open, respectively. Homa also finished in second place at the Genesis Invitational. At +2500 to win the Masters outright, Homa has exceptional value, along with momentum heading into the weekend. He is certainly one of the best bets and contenders in 2023.

Collin Morikawa (+2200)

Morikawa is undoubtably one of the best players on the planet and he is yet to turn on the gas at Augusta. He has had five career wins, including two majors. Morikawa won the PGA Championship in 2020 and The Open in 2021. Alongside the pair of major victories, Morikawa’s stats back up his play. He currently ranks third in driving accuracy percentage, a key detail for success at Augusta. He also ranks ninth in total shots gained in the field. Morikawa has shown that he can compete every weekend in and out no matter the circumstance, and with +2200 odds, he is a surefire best bet to win the Masters.

Cameron Smith (+2500)

After joining the LIV Golf tour, Smith’s name has been quiet in the world of golf, but that doesn’t mean he is still an amazing player. Before moving to the LIV Tour, Smith was seen as one of the top players in the world as he won the 2022 British Open (The Open) with an outstanding 20-under par. Before Smith moved to LIV, he finished third in the 2022 Masters with a score of five-under par. Although Smith hasn’t lived up to the hype on his new tour, he is still one of the best value bets for the 2023 Masters. Keep an eye out for the LIV golfer this weekend.

Dustin Johnson (+2500)

Similarly to Smith, Johnson took his talents to the LIV Golf tour, and he hasn’t skipped a beat. In the 2021-22 LIV season, Johnson finished top-15 in all appearances, including one victory. This season, his highest finish has been seventh at the LIV golf invitational in Orlando. Although the former Masters champion hasn’t been as stellar this season as his previous one, Johnson still packs a punch in major championships. Can the former world No. 1 climb back into his former shell and win the Masters once again? He certainly has great value and a great chance.

Tiger Woods (+6600)

Big Cat is back, ladies and gentlemen, and with so little left in the tank, this could be Tiger’s last roar. At +6600 odds, Woods’ odds are incredible for a chance at becoming a six-time Masters champion. Although he has slowed down, these odds are unbeatable for Woods. He has shown he still can compete with the best of them, but at Augusta, Woods will be hunting for his sixth this year. If there is any year for Woods to cement his legacy one more time, it is this year. With all the drama and how vocal Tiger has been for the PGA and his career is looming to the end, Woods is a great value bet for the 2023 Masters.

Who is in Contention to win the 2023 Masters?

Undoubtedly, anything can happen at the Masters year in and year out, but who is really in contention during this amazing year? The big names like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm are the ones to watch this weekend, but who can really win the 2023 Masters? Here are some rankings of big names in golf that are contenders, hopefuls, and miracle workers.

Contenders:

  • Rory McIlroy
  • Scottie Scheffler
  • Jon Rahm
  • Cameron Smith
  • Collin Morikawa
  • Max Homa
  • Dustin Johnson

Hopefuls:

Miracle Workers:

  • Tiger Woods

These are only some of the major names competing in this year’s Masters, but keep a watch out for any of these names to bring the fire at Augusta. 2023 Masters coverage starts at 8:30 a.m. ET on Thursday April 6.
