Deuce Vaughn 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Deuce Vaughn is probably leaving NFL scouting departments scratching their heads entering draft season. He was super productive during his time at Kansas State, but the frame has to be a concern. He’s got a lot of tools you can work with, but when is the range you look to target him? Let’s talk about it.

Deuce Vaughn was one of the most productive running backs during the last two years. He ran for 1,404 yards in 2021 with an astounding 18 touchdowns. He followed that up by rushing for 1,558 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He also would have 49 and 42 catches respectively for a combined seven touchdowns. An important note is that he did not fumble once during his time at Kansas State. I love a back that protects the rock.

As I mentioned before, the positives are there for sure. He showed very good production as a ball carrier and as a pass catcher, something that always translates in the NFL. He lined up quite a bit in the slot as well. Super durable. While being a shorter back, he has great balance and a low center of gravity. Cuts are solid. Kind of sad he didn’t run at the combine, I would’ve loved to see a time. He did bust an 88-yard touchdown run against Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

Man, that frame. Vaughn measured at 5’5” and 179 LBs at the combine. Not ideal. He is not made for pass protection and blitz pickup. The get-up-and-go lacks for me. When he starts to slow, there’s no getting him back firing on all cylinders. Struggled to get going against Texas and West Virginia this year. Has to get quicker when going through the line and hitting those gaps.

I couldn’t turn the card in for Deuce Vaughn in the first three rounds. Definite day-three grade. For me, he probably serves as a special teamer coming out, and that is more suited for a fifth or sixth-round pick. I think he finds a home because he’s got skills, but I’m just not sure if he hits right away.
