Graham Potter Sacked!

Graham Potter got the sack! Chelsea have let go of the British manager, now confirming the Blues will have three different managers for the 2022-2023 season. Ultimately, the pressure was on from the beginning. He was asked to do a lot when inheriting the team following the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel. Despite qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Champions League, they struggled mightily in the Premier League. The writing was on the wall after Chelsea’s record spending in the January transfer window.

The squad is very bloated. However, there is talent to be used. Potter had to deal with injuries to key players like N’Golo Kante and Reece James. When fully healthy, it could come down to which combination of players work best together. Any future manager will be putting together quick a complex jigsaw puzzle.

Speaking of which, Fabrizio Romano has an inkling on who could be up next at Stamford Bridge:

Nagelsmann could prove to be a very good signing. In similar fashion to Tuchel two years ago, it could even result in a memorable campaign in the UCL knockouts. However it will be an uphill test as they face the defending champs in Real Madrid for the last eight.

Feeling Blue?

The sacking of Potter is the epitome of Chelsea these days. The club has gone through a rollercoaster of sorts in recent years. One of the main themes that has emerged is their struggles to build a contender in the Premier League. They have found success in Europe, with a Europa League title in 2019 and the 2021 Champions League.

However, things have gone sideways ever since Roman Abramovich sold the club last year. Player development has nearly reached a standstill. Mason Mount and James are still the only notable academy products to still be around. New owner Todd Boehly has spared no expense in his attempt to rebuild Chelsea. However, despite unheard of levels of investment, the Champions League is the only trophy the Blues are still in contention for. The Dodgers owner will now be searching for his third first-team manager during his tenure in charge.
