Jed Lowrie Retires From MLB

We now have back-to-back days where a former Red Sox draft pick has retired. Yesterday it was Ryan Lavarnway. Today it’s Jed Lowrie. Of course, Red Sox fans likely have a better time remembering the former infielder. This recent retirement even made an All-Star appearance back in 2018 with the A’s. Jed Lowrie has decided to hang up the cleats for good.

Well, maybe not for good. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle was the first to report the news here. Lowrie even told her that he plans on coaching his daughter’s softball team now that he done with MLB. The story by the San Francisco Chronicle is behind a paywall so feel free to not click the link. However, I am required to provide it and will also mention the fact that he was complimentary of his time with Oakland.

“The fact that I wound up playing for the A’s for seven years is amazing,” Lowrie told the Chronicle. “The organization always allowed me the freedom to be myself, and playing for Bob Melvin, he always did such a good job of knowing when to say the right things and when not to say anything.”

A look back on Lowire in a post written by Milo.

Lowrie, 38, was released by the A’s in August of 2022. He finished the season hitting .180 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 184 plate appearances. I think most baseball fans knew then that this was probably the last we have seen of Lowrie. During his fourteen year career, Lowrie suited up for Boston, Houston, Oakland, and the New York Mets. Most of that time having spent with the A’s.
