Joey Porter Jr. would love to follow in his father’s footsteps and play in Pittsburgh

Former Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has spent his fair share of time in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ locker rooms over the years, even going one-on-one with Antonio Brown. Porter also has a relationship with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, as he played with Tomlin’s son, Dino, at North Catholic High School in Pennsylvania.

While speaking to the media this week at the NFL Combine, Porter said it would mean a lot to stay home and play for the Steelers.

“I think it would probably mean a lot for me and my family, being in the Pittsburgh area for a little bit now,” Porter said, via PFT viaNBCSports.com. “Staying at home would mean a lot.”

The Steelers took Porter’s father in the third round of the 1999 NFL Draft. Joey Sr. would spend eight seasons in Pittsburgh, becoming a feared defender throughout the league. He would also serve as an assistant coach with the team from 2015-18.

Meanwhile, Porter is projected to be Penn State’s first cornerback taken in the first round in school history. Some mocks have him going higher than 17th overall. He is in the mix to be the first cornerback taken with guys like Oregon’s Christian Gonzalez and Illinois’ Devon Witherspoon.

“I feel like I’m CB1 for a reason,” Porter said. “I feel like I’m the best corner here, so I’m just here to really show my talents and prove why.”

This site doesn’t disagree with him. Joey Porter Jr. has been our CB1 for most of the year, and his showing today could help establish himself as the bona fide best corner in the class.

Trey has been doing an excellent job with the combine notes, as he does every year. If you want to read his edge rusher and defensive line notes, click those links. It’s good stuff.
