Brighton’s Leandro Trossard to move to Arsenal for £27 Million

Arsenal have signed Brighton forward Leandro Trossard for an initial fee of £21 million, which could rise to £27 million if certain conditions are met, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. They have not agreed on personal terms yet, but if he is registered by mid-day Friday, he could feature against Manchester United on Sunday.

Arsenal have been attempting to improve their depth this January transfer window. Trossard is a good consolation prize after missing out on Mykhailo Mudryk, who went to Chelsea instead.

Trossard has had a productive season for Brighton, scoring seven goals in 17 appearances for the club, but the relationship soured after Trossard left a training session early. Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi dropped him from the side, and he has not played a game since.

Tottenham were also exploring a deal for the Belgian but did not want to pay the asking fee. Trossard only had six months left on his deal, though Brighton had the option to extend it for another year.

Ultimately, this is a good deal for both clubs. Arsenal needed depth up front, especially since Gabriel Jesus will be out until the end of the season. Trossard has Premier League experience, and he is used to playing in a high-pressing system like Arteta’s. He can play across the line and can plug holes in case of injuries.

Trossard also has good end product. He has scored more goals this season than every Arsenal player apart from Gabriel Martinelli, who has played more games. He also has two assists to his name.

Brighton get a good return on their initial investment in Brighton and offload a player who does not want to be there. They bought him for £18 Million.

Brighton have been excellent without Trossard, winning three of their last four games, spearheaded by the emergence of Kauro Mitoma.
