Dave Portnoy’s new watch is a rip-off

Dave Portnoy recently announced the launch of his watch company, Brick Watch Company. He spent weeks teasing the release/start-up and became the main spokesperson and promoter for the company. To put it very bluntly, the watches suck and the price attached to them is actually hilarious.

The watches are currently priced at $2400-$2500, and for the life of me, I cannot figure out why. The watch itself isn’t horrible but is rather simplistic in its design. It looks like a watch that any company could easily make and doesn’t really have any identifying or key features that separate it from any other watch.

Then we get to the real issue with the watch: the outrageous price. The watch market is a rather competitive one and if you are going to set your watch at a very competitive price like $2400, then it needs to really stand out.

This watch just fails to do that, and I couldn’t ever justify spending over two grand on one. Now, I am far from a frugal man and couldn’t care less about having a good-looking watch on my wrist. My phone and computer tell the time just fine. If I ever did need a watch, I could get one for 10-15 bucks that tells the time perfectly fine.

But regardless of that, I couldn’t imagine anyone who makes good money wasting it on this. There are far better watches on the market for a much cheaper price and if you did want to shell big money on a watch, there are many different options that are actually going to be worth your money.

Theo and Harris, who themselves have a watch company, made a review on the watch. For the most part, they mentioned the same issues that I and most of the internet had, ripping into the simplistic design and outrageous price.

They practically said buying a watch from any other company would be a better use of your money. If I’m being honest, I don’t think they are very far off. I don’t ever see myself spending big money on a watch, but if I ever was the Brick Watch Company would be very far down my list.

This watch is a complete rip-off and please do not buy it. Like seriously, please don’t. It’s a slap in the face of customers and frankly the entire watch community. Maybe Dave Portnoy will realize that this price is outrageous and will lower it in the future, but it’s been out for around a month now and the price hasn’t changed at all, so there isn’t a lot of reason to have hope.
