Drew Allar Could Be the Missing Piece for Penn State in 2023

The 2022 Penn State football team exceeded expectations, winning 12 games, including a Rose Bowl victory over the Utah Utes. I was not expecting much from this team with Sean Clifford at the helm, but he got them to this point. However, this team has loads of potential and next year could be the year they take that next step. A quarterback in the wings is waiting to take over the Nittany Lions’ program, and his name is Drew Allar.

Profile

  • Five-star recruit, No. 4 QB in the nation in 2021
  • 6-foot-4
  • 232 lbs
  • True sophomore in 2023

Allar has everything you could look for in a high school prospect. He has an NFL frame, can absolutely launch the ball, and has enough mobility to make a play when the pocket breaks down. He has a quick delivery as well; the ball seems to zip out of his hands. He has not had a lot of reps this season, but when he has been in the game, he has thrown for 344 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions. These plays should have Penn State fans excited for what’s to come.

This kid is special, but the best part is that he will also have a great cast around him. Kaden Saunders will be taking the next step and they already have a top back in the country in Nick Singleton. This offense was humming this season with a guy like Clifford under center, imagine what Drew Allar can do? He has all the tools to take over college football, and it is only a matter of time until he does.

If Penn State wants to make the leap and be a major player in the Big Ten while pushing towards a CFB Playoff berth, it will fall on Allar.
