Nick Foles Named Starter, Fire Jeff Saturday Immediately
What are the Colts doing? This Jeff Saturday nonsense needs to stop right now.
On Wednesday, Nick Foles was named the new starting quarterback for the Colts, with Matt Ryan benched for the second time this season. My problem with this is solely on Jeff Saturday and Jim Irsay.
Not only was Saturday woefully unprepared to be an NFL head coach when he was hired, but his consistent mistakes really put the nail in the coffin. After choking away THE BIGGEST COMEBACK in NFL history over the weekend, Saturday decides to bench a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Ryan for Foles. Not only was Ryan not the reason for the embarrassing loss to the Vikings, but now he is the scapegoat for the loss when it was clearly on the coaching staff.
Giving up 33 unanswered points in the second half with your quarterback throwing for a touchdown and no picks is not someone to be blamed for such a loss. If anything, look toward your running backs who fumbled the ball, did not stay in bounds to ice the game, and set up the Vikings in scoring positions multiple times.
The move to bench Ryan for Foles is even better when you consider that Foles has been on the practice squad all season and has NO REPS with the first-team offense. I love Foles and what he did in Philly, but Saturday is just setting him up for failure and another opportunity to be embarrassed as a head coach.
I just see benching Matt Ryan as Jeff Saturday pointing the finger at him for such an awful loss and not taking accountability. It’s been clear in Saturday’s short tenure as a head coach that he is not a leader of men in this league and the Colts should be moving on ASAP.
