LeSean McCoy is Definitely Not a Fan of Kyler Murray

LeSean McCoy made himself very clear today. The two-time champion hurled a barrage of insults towards Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray. On the “I Am Athlete” podcast, McCoy got a lot off of his chest. Here are the highlights:

“He’s trash. Overhyped. Overrated,” McCoy said. “He plays like a high school player. Runs around, runs backward, he does a circle, the ballerina circle, then goes left, goes right, turns all the way around again, then looks for a wide receiver. He’s trash. That’s not how you play quarterback.”

Say what you want about Murray, but he isn’t a bust. The former No. 1 overall pick from 2019 has racked up two Pro Bowl selections and an Offensive Rookie of the Year award in his first three seasons. He has also routinely thrown for 3700-plus yards and 20-plus touchdowns a season while being productive on the ground, too.

However, he is not perfect. At 5-foot-10, he is quite undersized at the quarterback position. His height could play a factor into the reasons for McCoy’s so-called “ballerina circle.” As well, Murray generated headlines with a since-removed compulsory homework clause in his contract extension.

Kyler Should Not Be Surprised

Murray has done himself no favors in recent months. The 25-year-old has been under the microscope for honestly terrible reasons.

Some really observant football fans kept track of Murray and his performance during weekends where Call of Duty promoted double XP. To say the correlation is bad doesn’t do it justice. Those rumors bumped up even more after an underwhelming Week 1 performance against the Kansas City Chiefs. So, does McCoy have a point?

In some ways, the answer is yes. Murray is clearly talented, but the application of that talent has been questionable at times. Furthermore, he has yet to propel the Cardinals towards any sort of playoff success. The closest he has gotten is only making the dance. Last year was a disaster against the eventual champion Los Angeles Rams. This year appears to be no easier. With All-Pro Receiver DeAndre Hopkins still serving a suspension for PED use, the load has been pushed onto Murray even more as the Cards sit at 1-2.

McCoy could be onto something, people. Let’s just keep an eye on this as the season goes on for Arizona.
