The Miami Dolphins Doctors Made An Absolutely Egregious Decision

The Miami Dolphins coaches and doctors could have blood on their hands.

In case you missed it, Tua Tagovailoa had a terrible injury against the Cincinnati Bengals in the first half of their game Thursday night. Defensive lineman Josh Tupou got to Tagovailoa and pulled him to the ground. However, what followed is absolutely horrifying. He was non-responsive and his arms were stretched out with his fingers pointing very unnaturally. The horrific clip quickly made rounds on Twitter:

Moments like that belong absolutely nowhere in the game of football. Everyone at VSM is sending their thoughts and prayers for Tua.

Vendetta’s Karl Heiser was quick to point out that Tua was displaying what is known as a fencing response. Here is what Mac Concussion has to say about fencing responses:

“When concussion specialists see this position, we believe there has been a traumatic injury. We assume that there’s a shock to the higher cerebral cortex, a crucial part of the brain that supervises over the primitive brain function that automatically controls critical functions, like breathing, heart rate, body temperature, etc.”

The Dolphins Have Some Explaining To Do

Enough about Tua. All we can hope for is that those working in the hospital can take care of him. My question is this: who allowed him to play? Whose decision was it to declare him healthy and ready to play? It was clear that, at the very least, Tua would be playing hurt. There were already red flags after the Fins’ game against Buffalo last week. Teddy Bridgewater is a more than capable quarterback in the NFL. He already scored a touchdown for Miami after entering the game in the second quarter. If the coaches and doctors had any common sense, they would have at least given Tua this game off just to be safe instead of sorry. However, they are now very sorry.

What makes it even more boneheaded is that it’s Thursday. Two concussions in five days could be fatal. Maybe if the Dolphins played Sunday it would be a different story. Now, Dolphins fans and the football world must hold their breath for a very promising young quarterback. The Bengals defense was doing their job. They’re paid to get to the quarterback. But Tua should not have been the quarterback on the field. What makes it even worse is that it looked like the Dolphins were turning the corner with Tyreek Hill and upstart coach Mike McDaniel. The rest of their season will now have a black cloud hanging over it due to this absolutely terrible situation.

Prayers up for Tua. We all deserve answers.
