Dalton Schultz is the Tight End to Draft in Fantasy Football 2022

Tight end is always one of the trickiest positions to nail down in your fantasy draft, but this year we seem to have a good number of options. In the earlier rounds, you can’t go wrong with Travis Kelce or Mark Andrews. Kyle Pitts and George Kittle should both be respectable at the very least and I think Darren Waller could be a fantasy steal this year. If I don’t get one of those five though, I’m not messing around praying a late round tight end that isn’t a top option on his team or has bad quarterback play breaks out massively. Some of us at Vendetta are opting for that strategy. Instead, I’m going to be targeting Dalton Schultz in every single one of my drafts this year.

For starters, the man finished as the third best tight end last year, but it seems like no one cares because he’s being drafted all the way in the 6th and 7th round. Schultz earned over 100 targets last year in an offense with two pass-catching running backs and two alpha wide receivers. That’s pretty impressive to me and shows that Dak Prescott clearly trusts his tight end.

On top of that, the biggest reason for optimism has to be the vacated targets now that Amari Cooper is in Cleveland. Jalen Tolbert looks promising as a rookie and Michael Gallup will be in the mix later in the season but Schultz and CeeDee Lamb will surely be the safest and consistent options now for Prescott because of their performances last season. Dak Prescott himself claims he’s in amazing shape, and I think should have another great year throwing the ball which bodes well for Schultz.

Lastly, but also an important factor to consider is that Schultz is on the last year of his contract. He knows he needs to ball out to ensure he gets paid in nine months. Don’t underestimate that motivation. Tons of players turn out to have career numbers in contract years because of that very reason.

If you’re in the middle rounds of your drafts sitting without a tight end, I’m begging you to draft Dalton Schultz instead of throwing up a couple of prayers at the end of the draft. The consistency he provides will save you a lot of stress each week instead of scrambling to plug in a bum at your tight end spot and hoping for 10 points. Schultz will be an X-factor this year and I do not want to miss out.
